ABOUT THE ARTIST’S…

Tiffany’s Bio:
Hi Everyone out there in Blog Land! This is so new to me, it’s kind of weird to have people all over the world read about me. Oh yeah, I’m Tiffany Reutter. My sister and I own and operate our scrapbook business in upstate New York and we are loving life! I am the mother of three awesome girls, Emily, Tabitha and Olivia. My husband, Mike is a hunky, athletic, extremely resourceful, builder who has been nothing but a pillar of support to me in my business with my sister.
I started scrapbooking when my oldest was just a baby… nearly 16 years ago. At first, all I knew was a picture on a piece of paper, maybe even a colored paper, and a few stickers here and there, oh, and maybe a border… I’ve come a long way baby, as they say! With 16 years of progress, and Scrapbooking being considered the biggest and most popular hobby in the world, I have learned a lot!
I’ve always been into arts and crafts. Even in high school, I ran a small business from home making pottery, wood and fabric folk art pieces and selling at the local craft fair circuits. After high school, I actually went to college for Auto Mechanics because I thought I would love taking engines apart and putting them back together again… which I did, but, what was I thinking? I married and started my family. I was blessed with the ability to be a stay-at-home mom to my girls and scrapbooking soon became my one and only, and much needed “adult time” with my girlfriends.
Immersing myself in everything scrapbooking has enabled me to really be creative with my pages as well as all my other paper-based projects. With our business, teaching others the newest techniques and innovations has kept me on my toes. Scanning the internet almost daily for new stuff, reading trade magazines, attending trade shows and using any other resources out there to keep up with the latest trends is a full time job. In my customer’s words, I am their best resource.. and an expert in my field. My scrapbook philosophy, if I had to express one, is that there isn’t a wrong way to do anything in this craft and if you can see it in your head, it’s possible on paper!

Tara’s Bio:
I’m Tara Burtt, the slightly older, but quieter sister in this business venture. Like Tiffany, I have always tried to make my artistic interests a priority in my life’s pursuits.
Just out of high school, I took one of my interests, doll collecting, one step further and through the Seeley Doll Studio Mentor Program, I started my own business. “Toys in the Attic” was my doll making studio where I taught doll making classes as well as produced antique reproduction dolls for sale. I continued my doll making business while earning a BA degree in Anthropology at Cornell University. (Science, and specifically anthropology, was also a major interest of mine!)
After graduating from Cornell, I worked for the JCPenney company as a visual merchandiser. I got to be creative all day long while setting up displays, dressing mannequins and all the while learning some valuable marketing techniques. It was during this time that I married my husband, Phil, in a spectacular Renaissance wedding, complete with minstrels, full costumes and the local news station!
Soon after, my best friend contacted me about a job opening in her office and wondered if I’d be interested. Now, 15 years later, I am a seasoned employee of the United States District Court, an extremely interesting job in the Federal Court system. All the while, perfecting my doll making skills, dabbling in professional cake decorating and hooking up with the Albany Museum of Art for some display work during their holiday festivities.
In 2004, at age 37, a miracle happened… I became a mother. My beautiful daughter Georgia was born and everything in my life changed! The thought of having to go back to work after my maternity leave was over was depressing. To help ease the pain, Tiffany, already a mother of three wonderful girls and I decided to combine our talents and try our hand at a business together.
Captured Moments is the result and it has allowed me to cut back my hours at District Court to a part time schedule. This has enabled me to be a semi stay-at-home mom as well as a productive partner in our business. In the 5 years that we have operated Captured Moments, I have developed my own scrapbooking style and skills. My talents and Tiffany’s compliment each other perfectly, creating a balanced business that is sound and growing. From developing classes and workshops, designing layouts, custom albums, organizing our monthly scrapbook kit club, we both do it all with great enthusiasm and energy. We love what we do!

Wanting to instill a drive for success, dedication and pride in their daughters, they embarked on this journey and hope that their success and vision help to direct the decisions their children make in their own lives. With the support of family and friends, a willingness to “dive into the deep end” and a little start up financing, Tiffany and Tara got things rolling. The doors opened in September 2004 and since then, they have never looked back. Enjoying every minute of running this business, the sisters have quickly established themselves as experts in the craft, helping new scrappers to get started, while inspiring others to better their skills and continuously introducing new techniques and designs.
