Thinking Caps on… please!
Store News and EventsTiffany and I decided that we needed some help… We are looking for the prefect location to hold our September 2012 Crop. The crop is scheduled for Saturday, September 22nd and it will be our 8th Anniversary Celebration Crop! We have taken this crop off-site for the last two years to accommodate up to 75 croppers!
Last year, it was a wonderful crop at Settles Hill Tree Farm in Altamont. The year before, we held the crop at the Nurses Association in Guilderland. Both crops were great, but those venues will not work this year. (Settles Hill can only offer us a Sunday date and we really want the crop to be held on Saturday)
So, here is what we need…
1. Large, open space, big enough for a minimum of 75 croppers (keep in mind what croppers bring with them!) We like to give ample crop space and don’t want to crowd anyone.
2. Good lighting
3. Heat and/or Air Conditioning depending on what Mother Nature gives us on a late September day. (This kind of rules out Lynnwood Church because they don’t have air conditioning and it could be a hot September day!)
4. Ample parking
5. No stairs to have to climb
6. On-site kitchen (this does not have to be an industrial or commercial type kitchen, just a kitchen!)
7. Not too far away from our central location in Schenectady (… maybe 30-45 minutes in any direction??)
We also decided to make this request for help a little more exciting by offering a prize to whoever gives us the lead that results in a location booking! (keep reading…) To make it as fair as possible, we will offer a little more info so that you can judge your suggestion’s potential fully prepared!
We have gone the route of a catered event and that is a possibility for this year as well, although, much like planning a wedding, it does get very expensive. We do not want to up the price of the crop so we are being very cautious of this type of venue. We have traditionally used our Anniversary Crop to feature our Family’s Italian Dinner and would like to return to this tradition, so we need a kitchen, but not a caterer. Many banquet halls are booked solid through September for weddings, so that is another issue we have run into as well.
So, if your church has a nice hall, or a school, community center, VFW, Elks, American Legion Hall, etc. that can be offered up as a lead, that would be wonderful. We have exhausted checking into locations in the immediate area of the shop. (we think, anyway). Also, our crops run from 9am until 10pm not including the need for set-up time, so that should be considered as well!
We have booked the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Voorheesville for the “Christmas in July” crop, but feel that this location is not big enough for the September crop which we expect to be a larger group of croppers. Thank you Sue Black!
Any suggestion that ultimately leads to a location booking will receive a $25 gift card to Captured Moments! All we need is a location name, and if possible, a contact number. If you know of a specific person we should contact, that would be great too!!
Thanks for your help! Our hope is to find a “home” for our off-site crops.

We’ll check them out… although I have looked into the Elks before… I can’t remember why it wasn’t going to work out at the time, maybe a re-visit is in order. The nurses foundation was great except for two things… lighting was a little tough and we had to bring all our own tables to supplement what they had…

I know this is a picky point but isn’t Saturday the 22nd? Maybe all the venues are looking at the 21st and they are booked and not the 22nd; so maybe there are more openings on the 22nd than you thought.

It’s not a picky point… it’s a keen observation! I wish I could say that I was “testing” everyone to see if anyone noticed, but I can’t. I realized the date was wrong just at the same time you pointed it out!! I have since corrected it! Thanks Colleen… we are running into many venues booked for Fall weddings on Saturday, September 22nd!

St. Gabriel’s Church

Ask for Shirley if she’s in, tell her I sent you.

HI Jennifer… Thanks for the suggestion. We did look at St. Gabriels, specifically the Gym. The size is good, but what we found to be tough was controlling the temp and also some of the restrictions were, well, restrictive! We were looking for a winter crop, maybe a summer one would work out there. Thanks again!
