In Search of New Crop Ideas for 2010 & Give Away!
Store News and EventsTiff and I would like to mix things up a bit in 2010! It is just around the corner and we will be announcing our 2010 Crop dates at our Anniversary Open House on October 3rd (and here too!) Remember, if you can’t make it in on that day, participate through the blog and you can win prizes while you are at it! We are getting really excited about the Open House.
Check out this picture… how fun was that crop??
This is a call out, a suggestion box, if you will, for some fun and interesting ideas that we can use at our crops. We enjoy putting on our Crops but we don’t want them to get stale! We have streamlined it to the point that it has become very easy for us, but that isn’t always a good thing! We need some new ideas thrown into the mix! Maybe some game ideas, contest ideas, a fun, but different way to disperse prizes and give-aways? How about some Crop theme ideas? Food suggestions? Have you been to another crop and remembered doing something really fun that we haven’t tried yet? Any suggestion or comment you would like to give would be awesome! Is there something we use to do and stopped that you would like to see back?
What we are going to do is give you incentive for responding to this request! We will compile all posted comments in response to this entry. From all the comments, we will randomly select three winners! Each winner will receive a great prize yet to be determined (but it will be great!)
So, you have a great chance of winning just by posting a suggestion or two. You can post as many comments as you want to , as long as you make real, honest suggestions. (If you don’t want anything to change you can suggest that as well!)
Hey, thanks for you help! We can’t wait to see what you come up with! We will run this Give-Away “suggestion box” until October 3rd!

From someone who travels all the way from Ohio to attend your crops (hopefully at least once a year), how about a “Happy Camper” themed crop? In the fall, hot chocolate for breakfast, afternoon treat of s’mores, maybe a grill out in the parking lot with hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, deviled eggs, etc. Not sure how to fit in the campfire, but maybe this will spark something with you two!
September 7th, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Ideas, ideas, ideas – I love the ones so far! ok, crop theme ideas – “luck ‘o the Irish” in March; fall – harvest theme crop; Little Red Wagon crop (go back to celebrate your childhood); Wild West crop; Evening in Paris crop; Cruise Celebration crop; Hawaiian Luau; Hats Off crop to celebrate the race season – have to make an unusual hat; “Survivor” crop – have teams and competitions/challenges, an immunity idol; crop for a cause – maybe one of the crops everyone could bring an item to donate, or scrapbook materials for something like the Ronald McDonald house or a womens shelter…..
Things to do – have a mini – kit contest – everyone gets a bag of items to use to create something – maybe some papers, embellishments, fibers, and a small item to alter; musical chairs – everyone gets materials to make a page, you start with one thing, then everyone has to switch seats and add something different, until you have gone around the table and completed the page; have a photo op (like Cinco de Mayo) and print out for each person to use in a page…
ok, that’s about it for now.

what great suggestions so far! I think I have to say hats off to Lisa Cox- I’ve not been to a crop yet, almost for the same reason- but am feeling way comfortable at the shop now.
I’m hoping that I can pull some things together for 2010 and start planning on attending crops myself. So I’ll defer to the more experienced and know I’d love any of the above ideas!

Move It ! Crop….every hour on the hour…you have to move it !! Walk around the building….jumping jacks…etc….Serve ALL healthy stuff…..etc.
Lots o times, you associate only with those at your own table…perhaps at lunch time, we could introduce ourselves, where we are from, what are we working on…so everyone gets a chance to meet and greet…get to know everyone…maybe someone has a love of soccer and another cropper is doing soccer pages and can share ideas.
Have a Geographical crop……
European Holiday…..Serve foods from several different countries…Saving desserts for Paris and Belgium !!
Asian Delight..chinese/cantonese/japanese/rice/etc. using papers with an oriental touch in the goodie bag.
Simple Delight….Brunch…Order breakfast pizza, have Dunkin Donuts..or buy muffins…juice, coffee…then order a 6 foot sub for dinner..chips….and you two CROP most of the day !!!
September 8th, 2009 at 7:26 am
Pot Luck Crop !! You assign or we pick when we sign up…Brunch, Dinner,Dessert…..and again, YOU BOTH crop with us !!
September 8th, 2009 at 7:30 am
Masquerade Ball Crop….everyone dresses up !! Serve finger food all day….
September 11th, 2009 at 8:33 am
Everyone brings pictures to scrap on a page, 12 x 12, 8 x 8, whatever size you are working on, and puts them in an envelope. All the envelopes are put in a basket and each person picks one and scraps a page for someone else with the photos!

I noticed a couple of comments from “newbies” to the crop. Just to share, it is worth the plunge to come by yourself. I came to a crop by myself a couple of years ago, not really knowing anyone and a little hesitant to try it. But, I met my best cropping buddy Michelle there (who also started coming to crops by herself) – we have been going to the crops together ever since and having a blast. So, some advice from someone who was in your shoes a while back, come to a crop and try it, I think you will really have a great time!
September 15th, 2009 at 8:35 am
For the ‘newbies’ Lisa and Karen….I have to agree with Maura’s comments about taking the plunge to come by yourself. You owe it to yourself! We ALL have one thing in common and that is scrapbooking….I have met such nice women here and have even a better time when we get laughing !
Tara and Tiffany…..you are absolutely great ! You ought to be so proud of yourselves for starting this business and oh…what a business ! Scrapbooking is my passion….as for new ideas…..I don’t have any because I think you shouldn’t change a thing….
But ….. do you think we could talk Maura in doing a class on a “Halloween” Diary, just like her ‘Christmas Diary’ ??? Too late for this year, but next year ??
September 16th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Arlene,
I heard about this idea for another class! I like it!! I am thinking about creating a “Spooktacular October” idea. I will work on one for next year! Thanks for the idea!
September 16th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Okay, most of the ideas I had were pretty much taken….Hoedown crop ( complete with Hoedown Hooch to drink!), Sports themed crop-tailgating crop, 70s crop with fondue,”lava lamp” drinks, and disco….Eating of the Greens crop for around St. Patrick’s Day, “Around the World” night…have a “scrapbook passport” to stamp at different make and takes or tasks to complete..food from mexico, japan, etc….
September 16th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
OOOHhh…how about a mardi gras crop or a “Comfort Crop” and make like mac and cheese, chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese…all kinds of comfort foods….okay, will keep thinking!!!!!
September 17th, 2009 at 4:43 am
How about a holiday Crop, doing things like gift tag . You scrapbook a gift tag with the photo of who its going to.
How about a backwards swap, you wear your clothes backwards and you do everything that day backwards…start with the journaling then add pictures.
Everyone has such great ideas, I’m sure whatever you pick will be a hit.
September 17th, 2009 at 5:56 am
Maura!! yes! Halloween is my favorite time…it should be a national holiday as far as I’m concerned lol.
If you teach it, I will come *smiles*!!!
Now to get my Christmas Diary ready to go for class tomorrow night….see you then.

All of these ideas are great. The only other one I had is April Fools Crop. Its similar to a backwards crop. Everything is done backwards meals, clothes, drawings, projectsect…A cookie swap crop could be fun too around the holidays. Everyone has to bring two dozen cookies and the recipe to share. This is a great way to build your recipe collection and cookie trays for the holidays.

Wow, what great ideas !!!I am at a loss
Actually, I did think of one or two. How about a garage sale crop. We can bring and “share for sale” ( just an item or 10)with the proceeds going to a charity. Perhaps Breast Cancer, seeing as we are primarily women, and we have all been touched in one way or another. Or we could have an auction and have a few other craft items thrown in for the holiday shopping.
See you at the next crop

Yes, I agree, the Newbees should JUMP in. We LOVE new faces. Also, an idea might be to start a voluntary lottery. On a monthly basis we could volunteer to withdraw for a new person to have an opportunity to join the crop when it is full. We could rotate (draw names)so
no one person would miss more then necessary.
Just an idea

Arrrh you ready to be a pirate? We could dress up and have a treasure hunt and make a pirate page with our own photo. Joyce

ATC Crop! With swaps to share!
September 18th, 2009 at 10:59 am
Request people for make and take. They could charge for their supplies….

I totally LOVE the pirate idea !!!! Aaarrrggghhh !!!!
Yo ho ho and a swig o’ rum !!!

September 22nd, 2009 at 6:31 pm
I can’t believe all the ideas you all have come up with. I’m not sure there’s anything left to think of, lol. I enjoy the crops, meeting new people and old friends, eating and just having fun. Oh, and did I mention eating??? What about a class or two? Not too many, cause it takes away from what we’re there for. And it wouldn’t have to just be Tara or Tiff. We have sooo many talented people that come. Someone could take turns each month doing a special class highlighting a technique.

Ladies
What is left to say? You women are genuises! We were chatting the other day and came up with a “catchup” crop. A time to bring all of our unfinished projects to “catchup” on. As for the women who are reluctant to come to the crops, I would love to be your mentor and help you feel welcome.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:01 am
Ah, Michelle – there is a good idea! A “mentor” crop or a buddy crop – match up a person who has gone before with someone new. It would be a great way to get to know new people, help others feel more comfortable at the crop, and there could be some “get to know you” type games, maybe a “project for two”…
September 25th, 2009 at 9:21 am
We also love this idea and were pleasantly reminded by our first comment posted that we have forgotten about the newbies! Tiff and I have confirmed our 2010 crop schedule and dare I let a small “kitten” out of the bag… We have added a “New Cropper” Crop to our calendar along with a few other suggested ideas! I will let you know that we may be calling on a few of our “seasoned” croppers to help out the newbies with some workshops at the crop. Thanks for the GREAT ideas!
September 25th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Tara, I would be happy to help you out. Just let me know if you want me to do a workshop. I think that is a great idea, because this is such a great hobby/passion to develop.
September 27th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
New Cropper Crop sounds right up my alley!
I’m home creatin’ and having fun, but think the fun of meeting and seeing how and what others create would be a great experience. Will look for the date of this one for sure!
