Old Game Pieces Make Great Altered Art
Altered Art/ Paper Crafting, TutorialsDo you love to go garage sale hopping? Some of the things Tiffany and I look for when we are checking out someone’s garage sale are old board games. Especially scrabble and monopoly. If you can pick up a game for 50 cents or even a dollar, it is worth it just for the letter tiles and the games pieces themselves. Recently, Tiffany came across a tin of dominoes. Nothing fancy, they were just plastic with colorful dots, but they make great altered art pieces! With a little sandpaper, some interesting miniature prints and embossing powder, look what we did!

Made out of a plastic domino, this piece makes a great pendant for a pretty summer outfit!
Here are some basic instructions for this project. What you will need:
- Plastic Dominoes
- hand drill with a very thin drill bit (and a steady hand)
- Emery board or sandpaper (fine)
- small images, sized to fit on Domino’s surface
- Embossing powder and Staze-on ink (metallic color, your choice)
- Heat gun (for embossing)
- Diamond glaze or a similar clear liquid glaze
- micro beads, small sea shells, glitter, etc.
- wire and beads (for making hanger loop)

Plastic Dominoes, measuring 1"x2" (approximately)
Mark a spot to drill a hole in the domino. With a steady hand, drill the hole through the domino where marked. lightly sand the smooth surface just enough to rough it up. This will cause the embossing powder and he paper image to adhere better.
Cut down your image and adhere it to the domino. Using the Staze-on media, cover the edges and partly over the edge of the image with your chosen color of metallic embossing powder. Heat to emboss the metallic edge.
Brush a heavy coat of clear glaze over image and along edges. While glaze is wet, add your sea shells, beads, glitter, etc. Allow the glaze to dry completely.
Run a wire through hole twist, add beads for a decorative loop hanger!
